First announcement 7th International Conference Innovative solutions for revitalisation of degraded areas
The thematic scope of the Conference covers all aspects of revitalisation of degraded areas. This year the Conference will focus on protection and revitalisation of surface waters and groundwater, including innovative methods, technologies and tools to support aquatic ecosystem rehabilitation.
Water degradation is a priority issue on a European scale. Despite ongoing actions resulting from the Water Framework Directive it is estimated that the requirement to achieve “good ecological status” of waters until 2015 will be accomplished only for about 53% of surface waters in the European Union.
Groundwaters are a determining factor in maintaining the wetlands and river flows, they also serve as water reservoirs during periods of drought. Surface waters are an important element of the landscape influencing its diversity and attractiveness as well as play key role in microclimate development. They are also a habitat of rare endangered species of flora and fauna and contribute to maintaining high nature biodiversity.
