Today, the EU’s top priority is to find a way out of the current economic crisis and to put Europe back on the road to sustainable growth.
The European Commission is making use of the tools at its disposal to help to achieve this goal. The Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7) supports research and innovation in a wide range of sectors, contributing to the goal of making the EU an ‘Innovation Union’.
Creating this environment should make it easier for researchers to transform ideas into products and services that create growth and jobs. The benefits can be further multiplied when these researchers and the knowledge they generate can move freely in the single European Research Area which we continue to work on and develop.
In order that the transition to Horizon 2020 is as smooth as possible, the implementation of FP7 in its last years has been re-oriented towards the priorities and objectives of the new framework programme. Come January, we want to hit the ground running so that Horizon 2020 can start delivering results without delay.
We invite you to follow the below link to our website ‘Science at the service of Europe 2012’. There you will find some examples of how the European Commission supported research and innovation in 2012 with the aim of continuing to enhance our quality of life.
