Involvement in the European EURAXESS Services Network is a new opportunity for the Republic of Moldova. The network is having a great impact on society, providing access to a complete range of information and support services for European and Moldovan scientists, including advancing their careers, offering access to the jobs market, and supporting scientific organisations in their search for outstanding research talents abroad.
The first steps in the development of EURAXESS Moldova were made by the Centre of International Projects of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and EURAXESS Bridgehead Organisation within the EURAXESS TOP II project. Work began in October 2012 and the first initiative was to create, develop and maintain the EURAXESS national portal, which provides researchers with up-to-date information about jobs and funding opportunities in Europe. This portal was launched at the biggest science event held in Moldova, the ‘Researcher’s Night’ in September 2013.
The EURAXESS project offers scientists the opportunity to implement the ‘Charter for Researchers’ and the ‘Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers’ (the Charter and Code). These principles are key to R&D institutions and this initiative is important for Moldova in addressing the challenges relating to researcher recruitment and the mobility of scientists at national and European levels. It is also important in helping to develop a healthy research climate in Europe and for assisting in the planning and removal of legal barriers to research applications. The steps taken create an enabling framework for the implementation of the HR Strategy for Researchers, incorporating the Charter and Code. At present, there are five research institutions who welcome this initiative to develop a European researcher’s Strategy, Charter and Code, thus helping make Moldavan research institutions more attractive to the best scientists.
