Beside EU Member States it also covers Serbia and Ukraine from Danube Region. The Scoreboard assess areas in which they need to concentrate their efforts to boost their innovation performance. Most of the DR countries included in the study fit into Moderate Innovators. TheRegional Innovation Scoreboard (RIS) is an extension of the EIS assessing the innovation performance of European regions on a limited number of indicators. The RIS 2016 covers 214 regions across 22 EU countries and Norway. The Regional Innovation Scoreboard provides statistical facts on regions’ innovation performance. Compared to the EIS, the RIS has a stronger focus on the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Regional performance groups largely match the corresponding European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) 2016 country performance groups although regional innovative hubs exist in moderate innovator countries as well.
