PS: FP7 KBBE – Plant ingredients for use in the industry for cosmetics and personal care

BBS Ref: 12 DK 20B7 3PP1

ABSTRACT

A centre for chemistry and biotechnology at a Danish technological institute wishes to coordinate and manage a project proposal under the topic KBBE.2013.3.1-01: Plant High Value Products – from discovery to final product. Based on wild plants the project will investigate the opportunity for exploiting the useful effects of the plant ingredients for use in the industry for cosmetics and personal care. The institute is looking for SMEs and R&D partners for various project tasks as described below

DESCRIPTION

Plants and flowers have for centuries been the base source of dyes and natural medicine in different religions and nature tribes due to anti-microbial and therapeutic effects. This knowledge is about to be forgotten as the world is becoming more and more civilized.

In the project proposal plants containing interesting oils, waxes, dyes, fatty acids etc., which have the potential for being grown in large scale and refined, will be identified. By extraction of the interesting ingredient innovation of new cosmetic products is possible. In general attention is paid to natural ingredients that can add extra value to existing products or substitute ingredients based on raw materials from synthetic/fossil resources. This also applies in the pharma industry where e.g. natural ingredients with wound healing or anti-microbial effects are of interest.

Apart from coordinating and managing the project the institute can deliver the following parts:

Analysis of chemical compounds with e.g. HPLC, GC, GC-MS and microbial studies.

Characterisation of antioxidant compounds and effects hereof.

Tests of plant extracts in model systems and products with sensory and functional property evaluation.

Experience and skills with encapsulation technologies for e.g. protecting natural colors.

Legislation knowledge within cosmetics.
